Copy to OneDrive for Business limitations
Updated this week

When you use ShareGate to archive teams and groups, you can copy an archived file or folder to a user's OneDrive for Business.

There are 2 limitations to be aware of when you copy archived contents to a OneDrive for Business.

Index

Alt code in names

In Microsoft Windows, holding down the Alt key while typing numbers on the keypad lets a user type special characters not normally available on the keyboard.

ShareGate does not support Alt code in team, folder, or file names.

If you are experiencing issues when copying content that contains an Alt code character in the name, contact our support team---we'll work through this together.

Team names that include a forward slash (/)

When an archived team or group name contains a forward slash (/), content copied to OneDrive for Business will appear in nested folders.

For example, if a team named Sales CAD/US contains the file Figures 2021, the content will appear in the following hierarchy when copied:

  • Sales CAD (folder)

  • US (subfolder)

  • Figures 2021 (file)

Considerations

While not a limitation, the following are expected behaviors for names with characters:

  • The characters pipe (|), backslash (\), double quotations ("), asterisks (*), question mark (?), right and left angle brackets (<>), and tab (\t) are supported when they appear in team or group names but will be replaced by an underscore (_) when they appear in file names.

  • Special characters that are not Alt codes are supported in team names, folder names, or file names. For example, an exclamation mark (!) or a plus sign (+).
