Custom Protect report fails to export

What to do when a custom report in ShareGate Protect fails to export

Symptoms

When you export a custom report in ShareGate Protect, the export fails with the following error:

We couldn't generate your report. Please try again.

Details

One of the main causes of this error is a timeout when reporting on a large number of items, such as hundreds or thousands of workspaces.

Solution

Reducing the number of columns in your custom report considerably lowers the chances of a timeout:

  1. Open the custom report that failed to export.

  2. Remove columns you don't need for this export.

  3. Export the report again.

If you need all columns, you can run the export twice with different column selections, then merge the two files in Excel.

If the export still fails, you can contact ShareGate support with your tenant ID and the report name.
