Security Groups Report

The Security Groups report in ShareGate Protect provides a detailed inventory of security groups to help support governance and maintain a strong security posture.

Accessing the Security Groups report

You can access the Security Groups report in two ways.

From Tenant info:

  • Select Tenant info in the ShareGate Protect sidebar.

  • Locate the Security groups section.

  • Click View report.

From Reporting:

  • Open the Reporting tab.

  • Select the Security Groups report template under Access and permissions.

Like other reports in ShareGate Protect, this report can be saved as a custom report and exported to CSV.

What the Security Groups report shows

The report provides a complete inventory of security groups in your tenant, along with key structural attributes.

The report includes:

  • Name – Display name of the security group

  • Mail enabled – Indicates whether the group has an associated email address and can receive email

  • Has dynamic membership – Indicates whether group membership is automatically assigned through rules

  • Group ID – Unique identifier of the security group in Microsoft Entra ID

You can use filters and sorting options to analyze how security groups are structured across your tenant.

Limitations

The Security Groups report focuses on providing an inventory of security groups and their structural attributes.

The following capabilities are not included:

  • Viewing security group members or owners

  • Expanding nested security groups

  • Mapping security groups to permissions or workloads

  • Tracking change history or activity related to groups
