Sensitivity tags overview
Updated this week

Sensitivity tags give you visibility on the data sensitivity of teams and groups in your environment and help you to apply the best security settings.

Create sensitivity tags suited to the types of information in your organization. Apply sensitivity tags to teams and groups yourself, or use ShareGate to collaborate with owners on your behalf.

Note: To better understand the differences between ShareGate sensitivity tags and Microsoft sensitivity labels, see What is the difference between the ShareGate sensitivity tags and Microsoft's sensitivity labels?

Create sensitivity tags

Create sensitivity tags specific to your Microsoft environment, then use them to identify and manage team and group data sensitivity.

For details on how-to, see Create and edit sensitivity tags.

Tip: As a starting point, you can use ShareGate's default sensitivity tags.

Apply sensitivity tags

Let owners choose the sensitivity tag that they feel best represents the data sensitivity of the teams and groups they create. ShareGate can collaborate directly with team and group owners on your behalf, giving you security and saving you time.

You can also take control of your environment by manually applying sensitivity tags to teams and groups.

For more information on the automated and manual options, see Apply sensitivity tags.

Relationship to external sharing reviews

Apply a custom external sharing review recurrence to sensitivity tags to ensure that external sharing links and guest access are reviewed at a rate relative to each team or group's security needs.

For more information, see Create and edit sensitivity tags.

Visibility

Stay up-to-date on how sensitivity tags are being used in your environment from the Manage page, Dashboard, and Activity.

For more information, see Monitor sensitivity tags.
