Important changes to legacy management features in ShareGate Protect

Updated over a week ago

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance ShareGate Protect, we will retire the legacy management features on August 29, 2025. This transition aims to provide a more powerful, flexible, and intelligent governance experience tailored to the evolving needs of Microsoft 365 administrators.

Some features will remain and get moved elsewhere in ShareGate Protect, others will be temporarily unavailable and reinstated later this year, while a few are being removed permanently.

Here's a quick overview of the changes to come:

The Governance Assessment will also include these new reports:

  • Internal sharing

  • Sensitivity labels

Policies

Inactivity and external sharing review policies will be unavailable temporarily after August 29.

An improved policy system will be introduced later this year.

Group archiving will be temporarily paused. You will still be able to view and restore previously archived groups.

New archival capabilities will be introduced as soon as possible.

Provisioning and the Teams app

Provisioning in ShareGate Protect and the Teams end-user app will no longer be available.

Sites already provisioned with ShareGate Protect will remain.

Tip: You can use ShareGate Migrate’s site copy feature to build new sites from another site, or try Microsoft’s open-source provisioning scripts.
