Symptoms

When doing a pre-migration check or while performing a migration, the following message is displayed:

When using the Insane Mode, it is necessary to have the site collection administrator permissions at your destination.

Error code

  • AN-079-219

  • IN-705-219

Details

In ShareGate Migrate, Insane mode for Microsoft 365 uses a migration API that requires your account to be site collection admin to work correctly.

Note: You can get this message with Copy teams since a team always has a Microsoft 365 Group and a site collection associated with it. You need site collection admin privileges on that site collection to use Insane mode. Teams' private channels each get their own site collections to manage permissions. For more information, see The relationship between Microsoft 365 Groups, Teams, and other services.

Solution

Get site collection admin permissions for the user account you use for the migration at the destination.

Tip: You can add site collection administrator permissions within your PowerShell migration scripts. For more information, see Add site collection administrator.

Note: We advise against using Normal mode as an alternative. Insane mode substantially improves the migration process, and ShareGate Migrate requires site collection admin permissions to perform migrations effectively. For more information, see Microsoft administrative permissions.
