The mapped Sensitivity label would remove encryption

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Symptoms

When running a pre-check or a migration in ShareGate Migrate, some files display the following error message:

The mapped Sensitivity label would remove encryption, which is not supported.

Error codes

  • AN-141-548

Details

When migrating within the same tenant, ShareGate Migrate cannot remove encryption from a file to apply a new Sensitivity label without encryption.

Removing encryption would leave the file unprotected, which is not a supported operation during migration.

Solutions

Solution 1: Map to an encrypted Sensitivity label

  1. Map your Sensitivity label to a label with encryption at the destination.

  2. Retry the migration for the affected files.

Solution 2: Migrate and relabel manually

  1. Migrate the files as-is with their current encrypted label.

  2. After migration, manually apply the desired unencrypted label at the destination.

Note: You must have the necessary permissions on the file to remove or modify encryption after the migration.
