An address was corrected for the field but the resulting address exceeds the limit of 255 characters
Updated this week

Symptoms

When attempting to migrate a list item field that contains a hyperlink, the following message is displayed:

An address was corrected for the field 'My Column' but the resulting address exceeds the limit of 255 characters. "http://some/address/with/more/than/255/characters"

Error code

  • DA-097-143

Details

When ShareGate Migrate migrates content, it automatically corrects the hyperlinks so that they refer to new elements on the new site instead of old elements from the old site.

This error means that an address contained in a field for a list item was corrected and the resulting address exceeds the 255 characters limitation, so it cannot be inserted into the destination item.

Solution

There are 2 possible solutions to this problem:
โ€‹

  1. Change the name or the location of the element referred by the hyperlink causing this error, so that the resulting address is shorter.

  2. If you are using Copy Content to migrate your content, use the Copy Options and deselect the Update Links option. This will prevent ShareGate Migrate from updating the link, so it will not exceed the character limit. However, please note that the link will still refer to old content from the old site, so you might want to modify it manually after the migration.
