Unable to copy the workflow
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Symptoms

When coping a SharePoint 2013 workflow, ShareGate Migrate displays the following error:

Unable to copy the workflow 'my workflow'. Please make sure the Workflow 2013 service is correctly installed at the destination. If the error persists, try re-publishing the source workflow and migrating it again.

Error code

  • IN-657-174

  • IN-672-174

Details

This message is displayed when ShareGate Migrate tries to publish the workflow at the destination, SharePoint gives an error because something is wrong with the workflow.

Some possible reasons for this error are:

  • The workflow service was not installed correctly at the destination

  • The workflow service was unable to process the request because the service is not currently running

  • The version of SharePoint at the source is newer than the one at the destination

Solution

Make sure the workflow manager is correctly installed at your destination and that the service is available with SharePoint designer.

If you are able to create and publish workflows at your destination, make sure that your destination SharePoint version is the same or newer than your source SharePoint environment. SharePoint upgrades (also known as Cumulative Updates) sometimes causes breaking changes to the workflows and will prevent "downgrading" workflows from a later version to an earlier one.
