The latest version of the workflow is not published and could not be copied
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Symptoms

When copying a SharePoint 2013 Workflow, the following message is displayed:

  • The latest version of the workflow 'YourWorkflow' is not published and could not be copied. Please publish the latest version of the workflow and try again.

Error code

  • ST-162-196

Details

Due to a limitation in the SharePoint 2013 Workflow API, Sharegate can only retrieve the latest version of a workflow whether it is published or not. If you publish a workflow version 1.0 and then save a new draft 1.1, the draft version will be returned. Because it is possible to save an invalid workflow, the workflow wont be copied to avoid any problems.

Solutions

To solve this problem, you must publish the draft version from the source site using SharePoint Designer and try again.
