The workflow association on the list cannot be copied because some properties are missing or are not supported on your destination SharePoint server
The workflow association on the list cannot be copied because some properties are missing or are not supported on your destination SharePoint server

Symptoms

When copying a list with a Workflow 2013 association, the following message is displayed:

The workflow association 'my association' on the list 'my list' cannot be copied because some properties are missing or are not supported on your destination SharePoint server.

Error code

  • IN-657-170

Details

This issue can occur for two different reasons :

  1. The SharePoint server at the source has a more recent version (cumulative update) than the destination SharePoint server. As a result, some fields or properties available at the source cannot be created at the destination. You can view the SharePoint server version in the Central Administration page, in the Manage servers in this farm page under the System Settings category. The field Configuration database version display the current version of the SharePoint server.

  2. The association was created with an earlier version of the workflow definition, which had different or no association fields. Because ShareGate Migrate only copies the latest version of the workflow definition, the association won't have the required fields.

Solution

If the source SharePoint server has a more recent version than the destination SharePoint server, you can resolve this issue by installing the latest cumulative update on your destination SharePoint server, or by installing the same cumulative updates on your SharePoint destination server as the ones that are currently installed on your source SharePoint server.

OR

If the association was created with an earlier version of the workflow, you can resolve this issue by deleting the association 'my association' on the source list 'my list', and then re-associate the workflow. This should bring you to the association form linked with the workflow. The required values will be saved in the association once the form is filed and submitted. At this point, you can retry to migrate your association to your destination site.
