The Microsoft 365 group was created using the wrong managed path
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Symptoms

You migrate an Microsoft 365 Group and the migration stops with this message:

The Microsoft 365 group was created using the wrong managed path. This may happen if you changed the Team Site default managed path recently since it takes several minutes to take effect. Please try again later.

Error code

  • ST-392-055

Details

You can use /sites/ or /teams/ as your managed path when you create new sites in Microsoft 365. Because the migration is done with the site collection associated to your Microsoft 365 Group, you have the option to manually change the managed path in your copy options.

For a Microsoft 365 Group, the app will normally detect the default managed path and use it.

When you change the default managed path, it takes a few minutes to be effective in Microsoft 365.

You will get this error if you did your migration with the wrong managed path too soon after changing it in your Microsoft 365 admin center.

Solution

To solve this issue, delete the Microsoft 365 Group that was created in the destination, and start again with the proper managed path in your copy options.

You can verify your default managed path in your Microsoft 365 admin center.

In your admin center, Click on Settings at the left, then select Site creation. In the resulting panel, you can choose either /sites/ or /teams/ as your default managed path.
