Transfer your machine activation to another computer or user

Updated over a month ago

A ShareGate workspace can have multiple ShareGate Migrate activations available.

A ShareGate workspace owner can manage and assign these activations to other workspace members.

A workspace contributor can only manage the activations assigned to them.

In most cases, workspace contributors will only have a single activation assigned to them, but they can have multiple activations.

To transfer an activation is to revoke it for a Microsoft user account or on a specific machine running ShareGate Migrate, and then use it to activate ShareGate Migrate for a different Microsoft user account or on a different machine.

Note: If your machine is offline or ShareGate Migrate can't contact the license server, see Offline license activations to learn how to transfer an offline license.

How-to

  1. Open your instance of ShareGate Migrate that is currently activated.

  2. Select Settings from the main sidebar menu.

  3. Select Workspace.

  4. Click Deactivate machine.

  5. Open ShareGate under a new Local Microsoft account session in Windows or install and open it on another machine.

  6. Start the app.

  7. When prompted, sign in with your ShareGate account.

  8. The app will automatically use the activation you freed at step (4).

If you don't have access to the currently activated instance of ShareGate Migrate, you can access the Workspaces section in ShareGate home to deactivate that Migrate activation before you can activate the new instance.

General activation

If all your activations are used up, you can either transfer an existing activation, or a workspace owner can add more activations to your subscription.

You may also encounter an Activation Limits Errors message if activation limits are exceeded, prompting you to review current activations and deactivate unused machines.

If you encounter persistent licensing issues or face scenarios not covered here, contact ShareGate’s support team for further assistance.
