An activation represents a working installation of ShareGate Migrate for a specific Microsoft user on a specific machine.
ShareGate subscriptions can have multiple ShareGate Migrate activations, and a ShareGate user can have more than one activation assigned to them.
For example, if you have 5 Migrate activations included with your subscription, you can have 5 different Microsoft users running ShareGate on their individual computers, or you can have a single one running ShareGate Migrate on 5 different workstations or servers.
Activate ShareGate Migrate
To activate ShareGate Migrate, a ShareGate workspace owner must grant you access and assign at least one activation to your ShareGate account.
To learn how to gain access, see Manage access to ShareGate.
Once access to the app is granted and you have a valid activation, follow these steps:
Open ShareGate Migrate.
When prompted, click Log in.
Enter your email and password in the browser window that opens.
Once successful, click Open ShareGate Migrate.
The page will return you to ShareGate Migrate.
If your account is assigned to multiple ShareGate workspaces, you will have to select which workspace you want to use.
A ShareGate Workspace is the new account-based licensing that replaces traditional license keys since November 1, 2025.
Once signed in, ShareGate Migrate will automatically use one of the activations assigned to your account, and you can start using it.
Manage your machine activations
You can also deactivate an activation directly in ShareGate Migrate before activating it on a new machine or for another Microsoft user account.
Since an activation is based on your account and machine info, changing your machine or domain name invalidates it.
If that happens, you can deactivate your Migrate activation in ShareGate Home and activate it on the new machine.
