Set up your own Azure storage account
Updated this week

You can use your own Azure storage to keep your archived items in the data center of your choice.

This article guides you through the planning and implementation to connect your custom Azure storage to ShareGate.

To compare the default storage included with ShareGate and custom Azure storage, see Azure storage options for archiving.

Planning phase

Note: Before you set up your storage, review the article How does using my Azure storage account work?

Create a custom storage account

We strongly recommend creating an Azure storage account used exclusively by ShareGate.

Creating an Azure storage account for ShareGate ensures that other users within your organization do not delete or alter your archived items. If they do, there is a possibility they will render it unusable.

Storage compatibility

To be compatible with ShareGate, your storage account must be General-purpose V1 or V2.

We also suggest setting the Access tier to Cool by default to lower your costs.

If you set your storage account to LRS (for data replication), the Premium performance tier is not supported by ShareGate. Select the Standard performance tier instead.

It is required to allow access from All networks for the storage Firewalls and virtual networks settings. Using Selected virtual networks and IP addresses is not supported because it blocks Microsoft's Import API used by ShareGate to access your storage.
