ShareGate tools can help you manage your Microsoft environment through collaboration with team and group owners. The Email sender and Recipient account are two ways that ShareGate communicates with owners and with you.

This article explains the Microsoft licensing requirements necessary to change the Email sender and Recipient account.

Email sender

When ShareGate sends email notifications to owners, the default email sender is [email protected].

You can change the Email sender in the Settings to something more recognizable.

Recipient account

ShareGate keeps you informed on the performance of your governance plans through admin notifications (i.e. the monthly digest, the governance alerts, and the external sharing review status emails).

You can change the Recipient account in the Settings to any user account.

Microsoft license overview

Microsoft licenses are applied per tenant and are attributed to the users in your tenant.

When you manage licenses in the Azure portal or in the Microsoft 365 admin center, you will see product names or service plans associated with the license. Each product is further identified by a GUID value when using the Microsoft Graph API. For example, the product Microsoft 365 E3 can be identified by the service plan name Exchange S Enterprise and the GUID 05e9a617-0261-4cee-bb44-138d3ef5d965.

Email sender and Recipient account requirements

ShareGate must verify that the users you are selecting for the Email sender or Recipient account have a specific license associated with a recognized service plan. ShareGate does this by sending a request to the Microsoft Graph API and verifying the GUID associated with the service plan.

The service plans that ShareGate recognizes are:

  • Exchange S Enterprise- This can correspond to Microsoft 365 E3, E5, or Office 365 E5, among others.

  • Exchange S Standard - This can correspond to Exchange online or Office 365 E1, among others.

Users with any of the GUID values associated with these service plans can be used as an Email sender and Recipient account, if those users are present in your tenant.
