Symptoms

When doing a pre-migration check or when copying content, ShareGate Migrate displays one of the following messages:

  • The destination list or library contains Managed Metadata columns which is not supported by the Insane Mode. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.

  • The destination list or library contains Document Sets which is not supported by the Insane Mode. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.

  • The Insane Mode does not support copying ASPX pages. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.

  • The source list contains list items declared as records which is not supported by the Insane Mode to Microsoft 365. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.

  • The copy of Discussion Board is not supported by the Insane Mode. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.
    ​

  • The Insane Mode does not support copying special occurrences from a calendar. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.
    ​

  • The destination library contains an Enterprise Keywords field which is not currently supported by the Insane Mode. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.
    ​

  • The source list contains user alerts on list items which are not supported by the Insane mode. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode.

  • Sharegate Migrate could not determine if the Insane Mode could be used because a library at the source contains more records than its list view threshold. The copy will continue without using Insane Mode

Details

Due to technical limitations of the Azure Migration API or ShareGate Server extension, some files or list items cannot be migrated using Insane mode. The complete list of limitations for Insane mode can be found in the article, Migration using Insane mode with Microsoft 365 and on-premises.

When ShareGate Migrate detects an item that cannot be migrated using Insane mode, it automatically switches to Normal mode for all the items in that library. Normal mode is subject to some limitations when migrating to a Microsoft 365 environment. For more information, see Normal mode.
