ShareGate Migrate displays the following warning when performing an Import from file share:
The properties could not be extracted from the file. Verify that it is not in use by another process.
Note: ShareGate Migrate warnings do not prevent your operation from taking place. A warning is to alert you that in order to achieve the operation, certain details had to be modified or left out.
Details
During an import from file share, the app's Property Extractor module will attempt to load internal metadata from your Office and PDF documents when the option File share properties extraction is enabled.
In some cases, this extraction cannot be completed because of PDF formatting, malformed hyperlinks, document encryption, file corruption, or timing-out. When this happens, the files are imported but the internal properties are not be extracted.
To disable the option, go to Settings --> Migration and toggle off File share properties extraction.
When the option is disabled, the app will no longer try to retrieve properties found inside your documents, and you will no longer receive the warning.
The documents you import will now contain metadata properties from the file share. This includes information for authors, created dates, and modified dates.
Tip: Turning off property extraction can improve the performance of your operations. The import is faster if ShareGate Migrate does not have to open every file to read the metadata.
