The ShareGate Migrate update failed
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Symptoms

When updating ShareGate to the latest version following the interface prompt message announcing a new release, a pop-up with the message "Finishing Update" appears and goes away after a few seconds, and then nothing happens.

Error Code

Not applicable.

Details

The Microsoft installer (MSI) package for the next version of ShareGate is downloaded, but it errors out when it is executed, so the update never finishes. However, since the installer runs silently, the error is never displayed, which gives the impression that it does not do anything.

The error is often due to machine settings, which prevent the installer from running correctly.

Solution

To complete the. upgrade, you can simply download it from our website or click here. This will upgrade ShareGate on your machine while preserving your activation, so you will not need to reactivate your license once the installation is completed.

By running the installer manually, you will be notified if there is any error. If you see this error: "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation," then you might need to refer to your system administrator for more information on the restrictions on your machine. We recommend installing ShareGate only for your user account to prevent such errors.
