The ShareGate Migrate update failed

Updated over a week ago

Symptoms

When updating ShareGate to the latest version, after the interface prompts you to install a new release, a pop-up titled "Finishing Update" appears, then disappears after a few seconds, and then nothing happens.

Error Code

Not applicable.

Details

The Microsoft Installer (MSI) package for the next version of ShareGate is downloaded, but it errors out when executed, so the update never finishes. However, since the installer runs silently, the error is never displayed, leading to the impression that it does nothing.

The error is often due to machine settings, which prevent the installer from running correctly.

Solution

To complete the upgrade, you can download it from our website. This will upgrade ShareGate on your machine while preserving your activation, so you will not need to reactivate your license once the installation is completed.

By running the installer manually, you will be notified of any errors. If you see the error "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation," you might need to refer to your system administrator for more information about the restrictions on your machine. We recommend installing ShareGate only for your user account to prevent such errors.
