The migration of managed metadata columns is not supported when migrating Microsoft Teams private channels
Updated this week

When you create a private channel in Teams, a new site collection is created just for that channel to manage permissions better and preserve privacy.

For more information about the interactions between Microsoft services, see The relationship between Microsoft 365 Groups, Teams, and other services.

Symptoms

You migrate a private channel with Copy teams, and you discover that a list in the destination site collection associated with your channel is missing its managed metadata columns, and you have the following error message in your migration report:

The Managed Metadata feature is not enabled on the destination site collection.

Details

When copying the site collection associated with your team during the migration, ShareGate Migrate cannot activate the managed metadata feature for that site. This means that when copying the list and its items, the managed metadata column and the item values for that column cannot get copied at the destination.

To resolve this issue, you can remigrate the associated site collection with Copy structure and content. If the site is large and complex, you can activate the feature in the destination site and remigrate the affected lists and libraries only.
