Insane mode for on-premises
Updated this week

Insane mode is a setting found in ShareGate Migrate that allows you to migrate or import your content and objects faster.

When migrating to an on-premises environment, Insane mode offers significant improvements to migration speed by using the Server Extension for faster file uploads, helping you to save time.

To enable Insane mode for on-premises (versions 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019), follow these 2 steps:

Step 1 - Install the Server Extension

At a minimum, install the Server Extension (version 1.8.3 or greater) on your destination on-premises server.

Tip: If you are migrating from on-premises to on-premises, you can install the Server Extension on the destination only and still benefit from extra migration speed. You will achieve even better performance if you install it on both your source and destination servers.

If your farm has multiple web front-end servers (WFEs), the extension must be installed on all WFEs.

Step 2 - Activate Insane mode

You can activate Insane mode in 2 ways:

Option 1

Follow the normal steps to migrate SharePoint content or site objects.

When prompted to select the Copy options, toggle the speed to Insane.

Option 2

Select Settings from the menu, then select Migration.

Under Migration speed, select Insane mode.

Notes: The Server Extension is not compatible with SharePoint 2003. As of November 2021, ShareGate Migrate is no longer able to provide full support for SharePoint Server 2007, which is past the end of its Microsoft support lifetime. For more information, see Contacting our technical support team.
