Copy structure and content allows you to copy site objects from your source SharePoint environment to your destination SharePoint environment.

Prerequisites

  • You have site collection admin permissions on your source site collection(s).

  • You have site collection admin permissions on your destination site collections if you want to merge your source site collection or copy other site objects into an existing site collection.

  • You have term store admin permissions on your source and destination if you have managed metadata (Terms, Term sets, Term set groups) in your migration scope.

Note: Site collection admin permissions are required even if you have higher admin privileges like SharePoint admin or global admin permissions. For more information, see Microsoft administrative permissions.

How-to

Tip: To migrate multiple site collections, you can connect to your central admin or admin center in steps (3) and (7). You will need SharePoint admin, farm admin, or global admin permissions.

  1. Select Copy from the menu.

  2. Select Copy structure and content.

  3. Click Connect.

  4. Select your source.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Click Connect.

  7. Select your destination.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Select the type of object you would like to copy from the list of Site objects. Your options are:

    • Sites

    • Lists and libraries

    • Content types

    • Site columns

    • Groups

    • Permission levels

    • Workflows

    • Managed metadata

  10. Select the site object(s) you want to copy from the source.

  11. Click Options and/or Mappings on the top-right if you want to apply specific parameters.

  12. Drag and drop it into the destination, or click Start copy on the bottom-right corner.

Once the action is completed, the migration report will show any successes, warnings, or errors. For more information, see Migration report.
