Manage connections in ShareGate Migrate

Use the Connection Manager to see and manage all your SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft 365 tenant connections in one place. You can add new connections, update their credentials, or remove the ones you no longer need. Any connection you make while working elsewhere in ShareGate Migrate is saved here automatically, so it's ready to reuse the next time you migrate.

Open the Connection Manager

  1. Open ShareGate Migrate.

  2. In the left sidebar, select Settings.

  3. Select Connections.

Add a connection

  1. In the Connections settings, select + Add a new connection.

  2. Enter the site address (for SharePoint or OneDrive connections) or domain (for tenant connections).

  3. Choose an authentication method:

    • Modern: browser-based sign-in with MFA support. Recommended for Microsoft 365.

    • Browser: uses your existing browser session with SSO.

    • Username and password: enter credentials manually. For on-premises SharePoint only.

    • Current Windows user: uses your Windows credentials.

  4. Select Add connection account and follow the prompts to authenticate.

Note: Connections are also saved automatically when you connect to a SharePoint site or tenant during a migration. You can manage those saved connections here.

Update connection credentials

  1. In the Connections settings, find the connection you want to update.

  2. Expand All connection accounts to see the individual accounts.

  3. Select the three-dot menu next to the account, then select Edit.

  4. Follow the prompts to re-authenticate.

Remove a connection account

  1. In the Connections settings, find the connection you want to update.

  2. Expand All connection accounts.

  3. Select the three-dot menu next to the account, then select Remove.

To remove all accounts under a connection at once, select Remove all next to the connection name.

Use a saved connection in PowerShell

Connections saved in the Connection Manager are available in PowerShell. Use Get-SharePointConnection to retrieve them, then pass the result to Connect-Site or Connect-Tenant with the -UseConnection parameter.

Note: Using connections in PowerShell requires a ShareGate Migrate Pro or Enterprise subscription. It is not available on the Essentials plan.

Existing connections

Connections you created before the Connection Manager was introduced are automatically upgraded to the unified connection model. No action is required on your part.
