ShareGate Migrate to requires .NET Framework 4.7.2

By the end of May 2026, ShareGate Migrate will require .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher. For most users, nothing changes.

If your machine doesn't have it when ShareGate Migrate releases the version that requires it, the installer will prompt you to install it when you update to that version.

Why is this changing

Microsoft is ending support for .NET Framework 4.6.2 in January 2027. ShareGate Migrate is moving to 4.7.2 to stay on a supported runtime ahead of that deadline.

What to expect

If you're running Windows 10, Windows 11, or Windows Server 2019 or later, .NET Framework 4.7.2 is already included. The update will install normally with no extra steps.

If your machine runs an older version of Windows (such as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2016), .NET Framework 4.7.2 may not be present. In that case, the ShareGate Migrate installer will notify you and include a link to download it directly from Microsoft.

Install .NET Framework 4.7.2

If the installer prompts you to update, or if you want to install .NET Framework 4.7.2 ahead of time:

  1. Download the Runtime installer.

  2. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. Restart your machine if prompted.

  4. Re-run the ShareGate Migrate installer to complete the update.

Note: If you're unsure which version of .NET Framework is on your machine, see Determine which .NET Framework versions are installed on the Microsoft documentation site.
