Copy identities (beta) - Limitations

Copy identities mostly relies on Microsoft's Graph API and is still in active development with limited functionality.

This article lists all known unsupported objects and properties when copying users and groups with Copy identity.

Identity types

The following identity types are not supported:

  • Resource accounts (Room and Equipment)

  • Entitlement accounts

  • Mail-enabled security groups

  • Distribution groups

Other unsupported objects

  • Devices

  • Service principals

  • Managed identities

User properties

The following user properties are not supported:

Contact and identity

  • Proxy addresses

  • IM addresses

Job information

  • Manager

  • Sponsors

  • Employee org data

Parental controls

  • Legal age group classification

Settings

  • Preferred data location

On-premises properties

  • last sync date and time

  • distinguished name

  • immutable ID

  • SAM account name

  • domain name

  • sync enabled

Assignments and services

The following assignments and services are not reprovisioned or reassigned for the user at the destination:

  • Administrative units

  • Microsoft Planner plans

  • OneDrive (linked properties, such as birthday, are also not carried over)

  • Passwords (a default password is set by the person running the migration. Users must reset their password on first sign-in)

  • Mailboxes (mailboxes are not migrated as part of Copy identities. Once your users are copied and their licenses are assigned, you can use Copy mailboxes to migrate their mailbox content separately.

Group properties

The following group properties are not supported:

Membership and access

  • Role assignments

  • Assigned labels

  • Proxy addresses

Microsoft 365 Groups linked workspaces

  • Teams, channels, and messages

  • SharePoint sites and their content

  • Microsoft Planner plans

Subscription and preferences

  • Is subscribed by mail

  • Preferred data location

  • Unique name

  • Preferred language

On-premises properties

  • last sync date and time

  • NetBIOS name

  • provisioning errors

  • SAM account name

  • sync enabled

State properties

  • License processing state

  • Members with license errors

  • Service provisioning errors

  • Unread count

  • Archived status

Note: Two group attributes are temporarily disabled: Hide from address lists and Hide from Outlook clients. These might be supported in a future update.
