As of November 1, ShareGate has evolved from license keys to a modern, account-based subscription model.
This transition improves security, flexibility, and compliance with international privacy standards, including GDPR. It also provides administrators with a more secure platform with greater control over ShareGate usage, including more transparent oversight of who can access ShareGate and how seats are assigned.
While introducing a new account-based subscription model, newer versions of ShareGate Migrate also continuously align with Microsoft’s current behaviours to ensure your migrations, reports, and automations remain performant and reliable.
To use the new subscription-based model, you’ll need ShareGate Migrate version 25.10.3 or later.
Staying on an older version may lead to complications, such as delays or additional steps to complete your renewal, and over time, you may also experience:
Reduced compatibility as Microsoft evolves.
Errors, failures, or degraded performance during migrations, reporting, and automations.
Slower or more complex issue resolution.
Inability to access newer reliability improvements and subscription management capabilities.
Our support team can troubleshoot more quickly and effectively on the latest releases.
How to switch to the new account-based licensing
The best way to create your account is to install the latest ShareGate version on a machine that already has an active seat, then follow the in-app instructions to create and sign in to your ShareGate account.
