Copy from Gmail - Limitations

Updated yesterday

ShareGate Migrate relies on available Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace APIs to migrate your mailboxes, and there are a few limitations to consider.

Organizations with Microsoft national cloud limitation

Due to several restrictions with these environments, the following Microsoft national cloud deployments are not currently supported for Copy from Gmail:

  • Microsoft 365 US Government - GCC

  • Microsoft 365 US Government - GCC High and DoD

  • Microsoft 365 China, operated by 21Vianet

Copy Limitations

Bandwidth limitations

  • The maximum migration speed of a single mailbox is 1.5 gigabytes of data per hour.

  • We do not recommend single Mailbox copy actions that exceed 800,000 items, as they become difficult to troubleshoot.

Emails

  • Snoozed emails are copied to the inbox folder.

  • Mailboxes suspended or turned off are not migrated.

Calendars

  • The Guest can modify permission from Gmail is converted to Allow new time proposals in Exchange.

  • Event attachment links are copied as inline attachments to the Exchange event body. There is a limit of 150 MB for Exchange events.

  • Recurring events with a rule that contains multiple days of the week with different offsets are not supported. For example, an event that occurs monthly on: The 3rd Wednesday of the month, the 3rd Thursday of the month, and the 2nd Monday of the month.

  • Events from external sources (other than Google) are not supported.

  • Occurrences of the same recurring event that start on the same day are not supported.

  • External events with Invite Others disabled are not supported and show as skipped in the migration report.

  • Out of Office events from Google don't carry over with automatic decline. While others will see the event holder as out of office, the destination event will not auto-decline new invites.

  • Working location events don't carry over properties such as buildings, floors, and desks since Exchange does not have equivalent properties to keep that information. The Working elsewhere banner is retained, but any structured data linked to buildings, floors, and desks is not preserved.

    • Other users seeing these events will not see custom working location labels in Exchange. Instead, they will see a standardized Working Elsewhere title.

  • Special properties of Focus Time events from Google are not copied. They include the auto decline mode, chat status, and decline message.

  • Google Calendar Tasks are not supported.

  • When recurring events are copied incrementally with exceptions and This and the following events edits, the exceptions are occasionally duplicated in the destination.

  • When migrating appointment schedules from Gmail to Exchange, appointment definitions are not copied.

    • Appointments booked at the time of the copy, however, are migrated as normal events.

  • Editing a Working Location all-day single event in an incremental copy to Exchange after it has been migrated can cause duplicates.

  • Existing calendar permissions are not removed via incremental copy if removed in Google.

  • Recurring events imported to your Google Calendar via third-party apps are sometimes copied as single events.

  • In incremental copies, recurring events that are edited at the source and deleted in the destination are copied as single events.

  • Writer and owner calendar permissions are copied; therefore, users with those permissions will have access to the destination calendar's private events in Exchange.

Contacts

  • Only 3 email addresses per contact can be copied.

  • Only 1 physical address per address type, up to 3, can be copied per contact.

  • Only 1 website home page can be copied per contact.

  • Custom fields are not supported in Exchange.

  • Only a single significant date is supported if labeled Anniversary.

  • Only child, manager, spouse, partner, and domestic partner are copied as related persons.

  • Only 2 home or work phone numbers are copied per contact, and only 1 for each other type.

Labels and Categories
