Choose how you want to archive: set up ShareGate's automated features so archiving decisions are delegated to team and group owners as needed or use a do-it-yourself approach and archive teams and groups manually.

Prerequisites
You can archive with ShareGate only if you have set up an Azure storage account for your data.
Automate and collaborate
Owners are in the best position to know if their inactive teams and groups should be archived. Use the following 3 features to collaborate with owners and keep your environment clutter-free.
Use the Inactivity detection policy
When you set up the Inactivity detection policy, ShareGate will automatically send a Teams chatbot notification or email to an owner if their team or group has been inactive for longer than the threshold you've defined. The owner will be asked if they want to keep, delete, or archive their inactive team or group.
For more information, see Set up and automate the Inactivity detection policy.
Use purpose tags
Set a custom inactivity threshold for purpose tags so that the amount of time a team or group can be inactive aligns with its business purpose. If their team or group has been inactive for longer than the threshold you've defined, owners will be automatically asked to take action.
For the steps on how to set custom inactivity thresholds, see Create and edit purpose tags.
Use Ask owner(s)
Use the Ask owner(s) feature to send a notification to multiple owners simultaneously, so they can take action (i.e. keep, delete, or archive) on their inactive teams or groups.
For details, see Ask owners about inactivity.
Archive manually
Archive teams and groups yourself from the Manage page.
For details, see Archive teams or groups manually.
