ShareGate helps keep your Microsoft 365 environment secure and clutter-free with our inactivity management and collaboration features.

Create an Inactivity detection policy and set custom inactivity thresholds based on business purpose. Then, use ShareGate to contact owners so they can be responsible when their teams and groups are inactive.

Tip: Make sure to set up an Azure storage account so you and your owners can archive inactive teams and groups.

Inactivity detection policy

The Inactivity detection policy lets you define how long a team or group can be inactive in your environment before action needs to be taken.

Set an inactivity definition and choose your communication method in Policies. When the policy is on, ShareGate will automatically notify owners to take action if their teams or groups have been inactive for too long.

Custom inactivity detection for purpose tags

Create a custom inactivity threshold for purpose tags so the amount of time a team or group can be inactive aligns with its business purpose.

For example, set a shorter detection threshold for teams created to complete a specific project or longer thresholds for department groups.

You can set custom thresholds for inactivity in Policies.

For more information, see Create and edit purpose tags.

Manage inactivity manually

Monitor and manage inactive teams and groups yourself from the Manage page.

For more information, see Manage inactivity manually.

Ask owner(s)

Delegate the decision-making to owners whenever you need. For details, see Ask owners about inactivity.

Visibility

Stay up-to-date on inactivity from the Manage page and Dashboard.

For more information, see Monitor inactivity.
