What is provisioning?

In IT, provisioning is setting up frameworks for your end-users and giving them the resources they need to do their work.

You are provisioning when you create new Microsoft workspaces, assign accesses, or configure settings for your end-users.

ShareGate Provisioning lets you make templates that your end-users can use to create Microsoft workspaces within your defined parameters.

Use ShareGate Provisioning templates to add:

  • A minimum number of owners.

  • A prefix or suffix to the team or SharePoint site's name.

  • Approval for teams and SharePoint sites.

  • A privacy level for teams.

  • Default team channels, including their name, description, and privacy level.

Can I use ShareGate Provisioning if my tenant has group creation restrictions?

Yes. Even if your tenant has group creation restrictions (such as the ones outlined here), your organization can use ShareGate Provisioning.

Tip: If you're having difficulties, ensure you've granted ShareGate all the required application permissions.

Is provisioning the same as configuring?

No. Configuration is arranging parts to create a specific outcome.

Provisioning is the end-to-end process of achieving that outcome.

Configuration is often one step of the provisioning process. For example, with ShareGate's provisioning features, you can configure workspace creation templates for your end-users.

Do I need to activate provisioning templates?

No. The workspace creation templates you make on the Provisioning page are automatically available to your users in ShareGate's end-user app.

Why isn't my blueprint site's homepage copied to provisioned sites?

ShareGate Blueprints doesn't support ASPX files. If your blueprint site contains ASPX files, they won't be copied to provisioned sites or teams.
