Details

You get this error when ShareGate detects an error that could have affected your local app data for ShareGate Migrate.

When this happens with ShareGate's migration tool 20.0.1 and 20.0.2, a backup of your data is created, and you can submit the error to our technical support team so they can investigate the cause of the problem.

You can restore your local ShareGate app data and get ShareGate Migrate running by following the steps below:

  1. Ensure ShareGate's migration tool is closed and inactive in the system tray.

  2. Uninstall ShareGate's migration tool 20.0.1 or 20.0.2.

  3. Open File Explorer in Windows.

  4. Locate the Sharegate folder in C:\Users\youruser.name\AppData\Local\.
โ€‹Note: AppData is a hidden folder, so you might have to reveal hidden folders in Windows Explorer to see it.

  5. Rename the folder to something unique and recognizable, like Sharegate_old.

  6. Locate the app data backup. It will have ShareGate as the beginning of the name and will end with backup.zip.

  7. Unzip the file in the Local folder.

  8. Rename the folder to Sharegate.

  9. Launch the installer.

When you launch the application, it should load with all your reports and settings in place.

Caution: Turn automatic updates off in your settings when you launch the tool the first time to avoid ShareGate reinstalling the newer version. Otherwise, you risk encountering the same problem when you restart the tool. You will receive a notification when the next stable version is available.
