Source analysis gives you an overview of your source target so you can estimate the effort it would take to migrate to SharePoint or Microsoft 365 and take action on any potential issues.
Notes: SharePoint 2003 and 2007 do not support this feature.

Prerequisites
You have site collection admin permissions on your targeted site collection(s).
On SharePoint 2010, Service pack 1 or higher is required.
Note: Site collection admin permissions are required even if you have higher admin privileges like SharePoint admin or Global admin permissions. For more information, see Microsoft administrative permissions.
Tip: To run a source analysis on all your site collections, you can connect to your central admin or admin center with SharePoint admin, farm admin, or global admin permissions.
How-to
Select Plan from the sidebar.
Click Get started in the Source analysis box.
Select SharePoint and Microsoft 365 as your analysis type.
Select your intended destination.
Click Select source.
Select your source.
Click Run analysis.
Your results will now load.
Summary screen
The Summary screen provides the results of the Source analysis you just ran. This is a quick way to see how many site collections, sites, unused sites, and enabled workflows you have.
The size (MB) gives a count of the total size of all site collections. The size does not include the size of your subsites. You can get a true total by exporting the result and adding up the size of all your site collections and subsites in Excel.
Potential migration limitations show issues that might arise during your migration.
If your analysis results in Warnings or Errors, you can click View details to see why the warning or error could occur, access an article (when applicable) that will explain the issue in greater detail, and learn how to correct it.
It's best practice to correct both Warnings and Errors before running your migration by following the steps outlined in the articles.
For more information on how to read the details of your Source analysis, check out Source analysis details.
Tip: You can use ShareGate Management to report on your Microsoft 365 groups and teams.
Relationship to your migration
When you run a Source analysis, ShareGate analyzes your potential migration but does not migrate or copy your information. This lets you see any possible problems (i.e. warnings and errors) that can arise during your actual migration.
Since your information is not copied, the results in the Source analysis details can differ from the results of your actual migration. New warnings or errors may appear on the Migration report as ShareGate works to match the source at the destination.
