Why you should update to the latest version of ShareGate Migrate

Updated over a month ago

New features and improvements

The ShareGate team is hard at work adding new features, improving existing ones, and increasing performance.

Upgrading to a newer version can significantly enhance your migration experience.

For example, we recently released mailbox migration capabilities, and we continue to remove limitations and improve their performance with each new release.

Support and issue resolution

We release new bug fixes and improve background operations on a weekly basis. The issue you encounter with an older version of ShareGate Migrate may have already been resolved, and updating Migrate becomes a straightforward solution to that problem.

If you submit a problem with a legacy version of ShareGate Migrate to our technical support team, they may need you to update the app to ensure it's not a problem that was already resolved with a bug fix.

It is strongly recommended to try the latest version of Migrate before submitting a support ticket.

New account-based licensing (ShareGate workspaces)

On November 1, 2025, ShareGate transitioned from a traditional license key model to an account-based subscription model, known as ShareGate workspaces.

The model replaces your license key with a ShareGate workspace, which acts as the hub for your new account-based licensing.

Workspaces allow for better license management, introducing two key roles: owners and contributors.

Owners can manage the subscription and assign seats to use ShareGate Migrate, ensuring contributors won't have access to make changes to your ShareGate workspace, making your workspace more secure and manageable.

Updating ShareGate Migrate ensures compatibility with workspaces and is highly recommended for effective management of your subscription.

For more information on managing your ShareGate workspace, see Manage access to ShareGate.
