What’s changing
Starting October 1, 2025, ShareGate is moving away from license keys. Instead, you’ll manage your subscription through a ShareGate account.
You will be able to manage your workspace (license) directly in ShareGate Home.
This update will:
Make it easier to manage access to your workspace (license).
Improve security, flexibility, and compliance with international standards like GDPR.
Provide a more streamlined and user-friendly subscription experience.
Do I need to take action?
If you already have a ShareGate account linked to your license, you don't need to take action. Your subscription will transition automatically.
If you don't have a ShareGate account, we recommend creating one before October 1, 2025, to ensure uninterrupted access.
Why we made this change
The account-based model provides a more modern and secure way to manage your subscription. It also simplifies administration, especially for organizations managing multiple users or environments.
Data protection
Your data remains fully protected under GDPR and other applicable privacy laws.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Why are license keys being removed?
License keys are more complicated to manage securely at scale. Moving to account-based subscriptions ensures improved security, compliance, and ease of use.
Who needs an account?
Some ShareGate subscriptions are valid for multiple users who can activate ShareGate Migrate with the same license key. Every ShareGate Migrate user will need to have an account linked to their subscription to use ShareGate Migrate after October 1, 2025.
What happens if I don’t create a ShareGate account by October 1, 2025?
You will need to create an account to access new versions of ShareGate Migrate. We strongly recommend creating your account ahead of time for a smooth transition.
How does this change ShareGate Migrate and Protect?
It only changes how you activate ShareGate Migrate. You will no longer need a license key; you will have to sign in to your account instead. The app remains the same desktop tool you know, and this will only be required on newer ShareGate Migrate releases.
