Import from Google Drive limitations

Updated over a month ago

ShareGate Migrate relies on available Google and Microsoft APIs to move your Google Drive content to SharePoint, and there are a few limitations to consider.

General limitations

  • When migrating folders from shared drives, the Created by metadata value is replaced by the last Modified by value at the destination.

  • Migrate can copy files shared with a guest or via a shareable link. However, copied files do not retain their external sharing link from the source.

  • Google Docs files are exported and updated by Google to work in Microsoft Office and might appear different at the destination.

  • Your users will not find files shared in a Shared with me view unless your migration destination is a OneDrive for Business environment that does not use the modern experience.

    • Migrate replicates your Google Drive access through a set of permissions. Your users will have access to the files even though they won't find them in a view.

  • ShareGate Migrate cannot list Google suspended or archived accounts.

    • You can reactivate users to migrate their content, or move their files to a shared drive before you migrate them to SharePoint with ShareGate Migrate.

Note: Limitations from your SharePoint destination could apply.
