You will need specific Microsoft administrative permissions to perform actions using ShareGate Migrate. To get the most out of the app with optimal results, you can follow these permissions guidelines:
In Microsoft 365, get a global admin to grant consent to helpful or necessary Microsoft 365 permissions. The permissions enable SharePoint admins to work on Teams and Microsoft 365 Groups, Exchange admins to perform mailbox migrations, and help reduce throttling.
Global admin or Exchange admin permissions are required to use Copy mailboxes and Copy from Gmail.
Get SharePoint admin permissions if you are in Microsoft 365 or farm admin permissions in SharePoint on-premises.
For Microsoft Teams, you need global admin permissions or a combination of SharePoint admin and Teams admin permissions.
For migrations, get term store admin permissions on your source and destination.
In the app settings, toggle on Allow auto-assign as a site collection administrator when required on SharePoint only. You can also use the option on OneDrive for Business, but we do not recommend it unless you run a OneDrive for Business operation that requires it, such as a migration. To get site collection admin permissions on all your sites before your migration, run a site collection report on all your sites with this setting enabled.
Note: These recommendations apply to both your source and destination. Permissions granted through Azure PIM may not function properly or may cause unauthorized errors during an operation.
